The good social network

03.11.08 | Comment?

Being reluctant about joining social networks like Facebook, I tried them and got not so much of value in exchange. But a couple days ago I see a light in the horizon: build your own. But looking into different CMS to find the right one, I noticed this isn’t easy technically. Well, at least for any people who wants to run their own without leaving his job (like me?). But I found something more than interesting: Ning.

These guys brings to you a bunch of applications to add to your social network at one click You can create your own from scrap in less than five minutes, for free. Obviously there is a trade off: you must keep their ads on it or pay. Anyway, I must say that Ning is to social networks as Blogger was for blogs years ago.

You cannot find all the hype Facebook has on Ning
. But is useful! By this way, you can create a niche about one topic letting users (members of your own social network) collaborate actively to build content using blogs, forums, adding videos, pictures and so on: you can segment the market creating loyalty to your own network (and use it to reach your goals).

Searching a little more I found some Ning followers. See a comparison chart here and reviews of each one here. I didn’t test them, but maybe worth the time… who knows. By the way, I’m planning doing a creativity social network in Spanish using Ning. Keep tuned!
